What is Dry eye?

When the tears produced is not enough to keep the eye moist, dry eyes occur.

What are the symptoms of Dry eye?

    • Grittiness

    • Redness of the conjunctiva

    • Watering

    • Pricking sensation

    • Burning

What are the causes of Dry eye?

  • Meibomian gland dysfunction

  • Infrequent blinking

  • Computer vision syndrome

  • Natural aging process

  • Incomplete closure of eyelids

How to treat Dry eye?

  • Symptomatic treatment for mild cases can be done with strong lubricants and change in lifestyle. Severe cases might need topical steroids.

Keratoconus

  • A condition in which progressive corneal thinning occurs and cornea becomes cone shaped. The cause might be frequent eye rubbing, natural change in anatomy of the eye etc. The main symptoms being frequent change of spectacles and diminution of vision. The treatment modality varies with respect to disease state and progression which includes spectacle correction, rigid lenses, C3R and many more. Permanent blindness can be prevented with early intervention and treatment.

Corneal Dystrophies

  • These are a group of conditions in which the clear, transparent Cornea becomes hazy with deposits on it. There are many conditions under this heading and usually many run in families. The right diagnosis will be made and the condition will be treated to the best possible level.

Pterygium

  • A wing shaped conjunctival outgrowth onto the cornea causing diminution of vision.it might be present since birth or can be acquired due to age, exposure to wind, dust etc. surgical excision and grafting is the best mode of treatment.
