

Uvea is the middle layer of the eye, placed behind the sclera and in front of the retina.it consists of iris, ciliary body and the choroid.

Inflammation of any of the 3 layers(iris, ciliary body or choroid) is called uveitis.

Anterior
intermediate
posterior
pan uveitis (inflammation of all 3 layers)

Infections due to micro organisms
Trauma/injury to the eye
Tuberculosis, dengue, chikungunya, typhoid, leprosy, syphilis etc
Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, Sarcoidosis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Psoariasis etc
Redness, diminution of vision, watering, presence of floaters, Photophobia(inability to see bright light)
Usually low strength corticosteroid eye drops will completely treat mild uveitis. If the condition is more serious, then oral as well as topical steroids will be used and frequent follow ups are required to treat the condition.
